Geneviève Labbé has the passion and expertise to lead songwriting workshops for people with special needs, particularly individuals with autism. Music has an incredible power to communicate and express emotions, and it can be a wonderful way to create connections and promote well-being.
In this workshop, Geneviève uses different approaches to adapt to each individual’s needs. For example, she utilizes visual tools to help structure the songwriting sessions, incorporates sensory musical instruments to provide a tactile and multisensory experience, and encourages communication through music, whether through singing, writing lyrics, or instrumental expression.
It’s important to offer an inclusive and safe environment where everyone feels comfortable expressing themselves and contributing to the creation of music. With her experience in mental health and her training, Geneviève is well-equipped to understand and respond to the specific needs of this clientele, providing emotional support and adjusting activities accordingly.
This workshop could have a significant positive impact on the lives of participants, fostering self-expression, creativity, and the development of social skills.
As a singer-songwriter, Geneviève Labbé dedicates much of her work to young people. She has produced three albums, two of which are for children, created two musicals with youth, and has performed nearly 200 shows since 2009. In her creative workshops, she has co-written songs with more than 80 classes in primary and secondary schools. Geneviève also taught French as a second language in Australia and has conducted about twenty French immersion songwriting workshops in recent years.
