Be swept away by the Simb Gaïndé Parade—a powerful, roving spectacle that revives the legendary “false lion” rite in the heart of an imaginary village. As the drums beat and voices rise, the Simbs emerge: painted men who leap, growl, and prowl—half-human, half-beast.

Inspired by an ancient possession ritual from Senegal, this performance tells the story of a hunter who survives a lion attack, only to become haunted by the animal’s spirit. As he slowly transforms into a lion before the audience’s eyes, traditional healers intervene in a dramatic attempt to free him from his trance...

Artistic Elements of the Parade

• Dance & Performance: The Simbs weave through the crowd with fierce, acrobatic, and sometimes playful movements, embodying lions. They improvise based on audience energy, ensuring each show is unique and captivating.
• Live Music & Percussion: Two master drummers drive the parade with traditional tam-tams and drums, punctuating the key moments: the lion’s arrival, the hunt, possession, and healing.
• Audience Interaction: The false lion playfully charges, teases, and surprises—engaging children and adults alike. Everyone becomes part of the ritual in a spirit of cultural exchange and fun.
• Costumes & Makeup: Dominated by red and black, the stylized costumes, body paint, and symbolic accessories unleash the full power of the lion’s spirit—whether on stage or in the streets.
